The Board of the American Women's Club of Duesseldorf voted unanimously at a special meeting on Jan 19th to donate Eur 1500 to relief efforts for the crisis in Haiti.
According to Club president Anastasia Siskou, "We had decided to concentrate on local charities, but this is a major catastrophe and I think we should consider an exception - the needs there are enormous and even a small donation would be helpful".
The funds will be contributed via the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas (FAWCO) Emergency Relief Fund, which is channeling donations from Americans and others around the world to the well-respected charity Oxfam. Oxfam is already active in Haiti, providing clean water, shelter, and sanitation to the victims of the disaster.
All club members, and the public at large, are urged to contribute as well: instructions for how to donate via credit, Ueberweisung, Paypal and bank cheque can be found on both the homepages of the American Women's Club of Duesseldorf (www.awduesseldorf.org ) and FAWCO (www.fawco.org ). Please indicate in the forms that your donation should be directed toward the Emergency Relief Fund (ERF) to expedite relief efforts.
