Learning in Düsseldorf
The first day of 1st grade is a cause for celebration in Germany

Just like you did in your home country, you'll want to be sending your children to school. In fact, you must... there is no homeschooling in Germany. But how you choose to educated your children will be one of the biggest and hardest decisions you make coming to Germany.

  • Public or Private?
  • Private: English, German or other language?
  • Public: Religious or city schools? If 5th+ grade, what kind of schooling do you want for your child?
  • When do I send my children to Kindergarten?  Can I just start them off in German Kindergarten?

Members of the American Women's Club of Düsseldorf have faced all these decisions, too, and while we certainly can't tell you what choice is the best one for your family, as a new member you'll have the opportunity to talk with other members about their experiences.

Till then, use this web page as a starting point to educate yourself about German education. We will guarantee you'll learn as much as your kids.
