Help for Victims of Domestic Violence Abroad

Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive behavior which may include physical and sexual violence, threats, insults, and economic deprivation which is aimed at gaining then maintaining power over an intimate partner. People of all races, cultures, professions, educational backgrounds, sexual orientations, and socio-economic status experience domestic violence.

People living abroad may feel particularly vulnerable and helpless in a domestic abuse situation.  Distance from friends and family support and perhaps language difficulties can increase the sense of isolation and make it difficult to know where to get help.

Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center advocates are available on the international toll free domestic violence crisis line 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. The crisis line is closed from 1 pm Saturday until 1 pm Sunday, Pacific Time.

To contact the toll-free crisis line from overseas, first dial your AT&T USADirect access number (0-800-225-5288 from Germany) and at the prompt, enter their phone number: 866-USWOMEN (879-6636).
